Paul Waghorn Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Paul Dudley Waghorn, on Thursday, January 19th, 2023. Paul passed away peacefully with family by his side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa; he was in his 81st year. Paul leaves behind his loving wife, Denise; sister Alison Nixon; children Kim Snyder (Michael), Brad Waghorn (Cheryl), Shelley McCracken, Sarah Waghorn, Cindy Fleming (Tom), and Paul Simon Waghorn; as well as stepchildren Steve Malinowski (Ruth), Jason Malinowski (Andrea), and Susan Grace (Bill). Paul, known as Papa, is lovingly remembered by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Connie Waghorn, and his beloved wife Carol (d. 2012).

Paul was born in Port Hope, ON in 1942. He worked for Cameco for over 25 years. In his younger days, Paul enjoyed touring England on his motorcycle and had many stories of his adventures on the road. He also had his pilot’s licence and would tell you that there was nothing like the freedom of the skies! He was an avid stamp collector and loved all things Titanic. He was also passionate about steam engine locomotives and could often be found watching them on YouTube. Paul was a fan of the Montreal Canadiens, movies, and hard rock music from the 60’s and 70’s.

Paul’s father, Lieutenant Frank T.G. Waghorn was a decorated World War 1 soldier, and Paul was honoured to be able to erect a dedication plaque at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Port Hope, where the family attended for many years. When Paul moved to Lindsay, he and Denise enjoyed services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a man of faith and spoke often of the peace afforded us by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul was always up for coffee and a conversation about history or politics and had a wonderful ‘sense of haha’ (as he called it). He was always kind-hearted and generous, and his loss will be felt by many.

There will be a visitation held on January 30, 2023, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Mill Valley Funeral Home in Millbrook.
